East London’s vibrant heart, the Bethnal Green Working Men’s Club (BGWMC), is calling for your help. This beloved, community-owned social club, a beacon of culture and inclusivity since 1973, faces an uncertain future. To ensure its survival, we’re launching an urgent crowdfunding campaign – the “Fighting Fund” – and we need your support.

BGWMC isn’t just another venue; it’s a living, breathing testament to East London’s rich history and diverse spirit. Imagine a place where original EastEnders locals rubbed shoulders with groundbreaking artists, where the iconic Sink The Pink was born, and where legends like Liam Gallagher, Björk, and Paloma Faith graced the stage. This Grade II listed building, with its instantly recognizable lit-up heart, has also recently served as a backdrop for the hit series “Baby Reindeer,” further cementing its place in popular culture.

But this iconic status doesn’t guarantee its future. The challenge is clear: we must raise £12,000 by April 8, 2025. This vital funding will cover the costs of a comprehensive chartered survey, a professional valuation of the building, and the crucial planning application needed to present a strong case to the Tower Hamlets Mayor. Our ultimate goal is for the borough to purchase the building and return it to the community, ensuring BGWMC remains a vibrant hub for generations to come.

How can you help? It’s simple. Visit our crowdfunder at www.crowdfunder.co.uk/p/save-bgwmc and contribute to the “Fighting Fund.” Every donation, no matter how small, brings us closer to our goal. Spread the word by sharing this campaign with your friends, family, and social networks. And remember, BGWMC is still open for business! Book your tickets for upcoming events at www.workersplaytime.net and experience the magic for yourself.

We’re also available for interviews. Nick Keegan, Variety Organiser from Equity, and Olimpia Burchiellaro, from the Management Committee for the Friends of the Joiners Arms, are ready to share their insights and passion for this vital cause. If you’re a member of the press, please contact Alex Karol at [email address removed] to arrange an interview.

BGWMC is more than just a building; it’s a community, a legacy, a symbol of resilience. Let’s come together to save our heart and ensure its light continues to shine brightly.
